Julie Quesada is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience
working with teens, families and adults. She began her career working in residential treatment
with adolescents where she provided clinical case management services to include helping
clients connect to resources for aftercare. Julie then moved on to work for an agency that
provided services for youth involved in the criminal justice system. While there she provided
individual and family therapy as well as ran groups for adolescent girls. As part of her position
she went into homes to provide support. This is where Julie honed her crisis intervention skills.
Julie then moved onto a transitional housing program for ages 16-22. Here she provided
individual and couples therapy to young adults coping with a variety of issues to include housing
insecurity, trauma, addiction and pregnancy. Julie has also worked with adults providing
individual and family therapy in a dual diagnosis residential program. Julie for the past 13 years
has been working with students ages 12 to 22 in the San Diego Unified School District. Here
she provides individual and family therapy. The primary issues she treats are mood disorders,
psychosis, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, behavioral problems, ADHD/ADD and
sexual trauma.
Julie believes in the common human experience. She believes every individual has their own
story but we all share common emotional experiences and responses. Julie believes that this
philosophy helps her to connect and engage her clients in the therapeutic process. She partners
with clients to identify their goals and work from a strength based perspective. As a result she is
highly collaborative. Julie is a caring, thoughtful professional who believes in helping her clients
to increase their insight and awareness and empower them to live their fullest and happiest life.
Julie is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Bowen family Systems, Motivational
Interviewing and Brief Solution Focused Therapy and EMDR. She is also trauma informed. She
is additionally trained in an evidenced based treatment called Seeking Safety which addresses
both substance abuse and trauma.
